Derek Sloan
Number 9 · Shoots left · 6'1" · Age 27
The engine of our top line. Derek sees passing lanes two moves early and takes the defensive-zone draws nobody else wants.
Biography
The Pass Before
the Pass
Derek joined Ironvale's academy at fourteen and never left — through the treble years as a junior call-up, through the lean rebuild as a first-line fixture. Coaches describe him as a "practice perfectionist": first on the ice, last off, notebook full of face-off tendencies.
Off the ice he runs our school clinics program, which is why half the kids in the south stand wear number 9.
Strengths
- Elite vision — quarterbacks the power play from the half-wall
- Face-off reliability above 55% across three seasons
- Two-way responsibility — trusted on late-game defensive draws
- Mentor to every young center in the academy pathway
"Derek makes everyone on his line ten percent better. You can't teach what he sees — you just clear space and hold your stick on the ice."
— Martin Cole, Head Coach
